Step 1. Mix two cups of cold water with one teaspoon of liquid hand dishwashing detergent and one tablespoon of ammonia (Warning: Never mix bleach and ammonia - the resulting fumes are hazardous).

Step 2. Using a clean white cloth, apply the detergent/ammonia solution to the stain.

Step 3. Using the same white cloth, Blot until the liquid is absorbed.

Step 4. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 until the stain disappears or is no longer absorbed into the cloth.

Step 5. If the stain remains, mix two cups of cool water with one tablespoon of liquid hand dishwashing detergent and one tablespoon of white vinegar.

Step 6. Using a new clean white cloth, apply the detergent/vinegar solution to the stain.

Step 7. Blot with the white cloth until the liquid is absorbed.

Step 8. Repeat Steps 6 and 7 until the stain disappears or is no longer absorbed into the cloth.

Step 9. Sponge the stain with rubbing alcohol using a new clean white cloth.

Step 10. Blot until the liquid is absorbed with the same white cloth.

Step 11. Use a clean sponge with cold water to rinse and then blot dry with a clean cloth.

This should take care of most red stains, however if you don’t get to the stain right away some stains can get so set in they require a professional like A Plus Carpet Cleaners.
